The honest answers to the things people ask most before they drop their first thought into the current.
Yes. There are no accounts, no profiles, no usernames and no followers. You do not sign up and you do not log in. A thought you drop into the current is not attached to a name, because there is no name to attach it to.
A thought lives in the current for 48 hours so others can feel it, and then it dissolves. Drift is not built to be an archive of your private thoughts. There are no ads, we do not sell data, and we do not track you across the internet.
48 hours. After that they dissolve, like writing in the sand. The idea is to set a feeling down and let it go, not to keep a permanent record of it.
Content that could hurt people is held back before it reaches the current. Hate speech, threats, personal information and spam do not make it through. But pain itself is never moderated. If you are struggling, the ocean holds your words, and if it senses you might need someone, it gently offers support rather than a wall.

Yes. Drift will never show you an advert, never sell your data, and never send you a notification designed to pull you back. You are not the product here.
For the thoughts you carry and cannot quite say out loud. It is a place to feel something, say something, and let it go, on your own terms and without an audience who knows you.
Still curious about the why behind it? Read about drift or why ephemeral journaling works. If you are struggling right now, the support page lists people who want to hear from you.
The ocean is waiting.
